could bring damaging winds, hail, and possible tornadoes. rebuilding history. haunting images from notre dame show the aftermath of the massive fire, but millions of dollars are rolling in to help clean up this mess. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, a desperate search is under way this morning in colorado for a woman police say made a credible threat against a school district that includes columbine high school. police say sol pais is interested in schools. it's impacting more than half a million students. laura podesta has more. she has detailed that police released overnight. >> authorities gave a detailed play-by-play of what this 18-year-old woman has been doing since she landed in colorado on

monday night as far as shopping for a weapon and then disappearing into the foothills. now every law enforcement agency in the denver area is trying to track her down. all schools closed. denver public schools and surrounding districts are cancel class today for a woman police say is infatuated with the columbine massacre and has made threats surrounding its 20th anniversary on saturday. >> this has been a massive manhunt in the aor. and every law enforcement agency is interested in helping with this effort. >> sol pais traveled to colorado from south florida monday night and according to investigators purchased a weapon and ammunition. the 18-year-old was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, camouflage pants and black boots in jefferson county.

while she's made no particular threat, students are on alert. >> so many things are rolling through my head. >> sometimes takig precautions makes sense. unfortunately that's where we're at right now. >> authorities say with colorado's history of mass shootings, they are taking no chances, which is why they chose to cancel school today. 13 students and faculty were shot and killed at columbine high school in 1999. in july of 2012 in aurora, colorado, a masked gunman shot and killed 12 people in a movie theater. the suspect's father has said his daughter ma i have mental problems. he last saw her on sunday, and he's urging her to return home. anne-marie. >> all right, laura. thank you so much. laura podesta in new york. this morning authorities in france are assessing the security and safety of notre dame after a massive fire nearly destroyed the iconic church. the cathedral's structure was left largely intact and more than $500 million has already

been donated to repair what parisians call the heart of their city. ian lee is in paris. ian, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. you've got the political will to rebuild, and as you pointed out, the money is rolling in, but there are two big questions. what is going to replace that roof that you can see right behind me? france doesn't have the timber to build it. so they're looking at other materials like steel or something less flammable and stronger. the next question is how long is it going to take. some say 10 or 15 years. but the french president has his own timeline. >> reporter: french president emmanuel macron is promising to build notre dame even more beautifully and do it in less than five years. a look inside the 850-year old

school shows the soot-filled sanctuary and the spire is gone. much of the interior was saved and most of the priciest artifacts were taken out in time. >> so far it's safe. the majority of notre dame is standing. tacts well as the stained wer glass. the rubble will start be to cleared away. >> as long as the structure holds, it will be okay. but you have all the water and you have all the wood debris that's fallen on top, and they weren't made to carry that weight. >> reporter: for a second night in a row, thousands of parisians came together to pray. >> reporter: yesterday night

we were shocked, this man said. we woke up in a bit of a fog, but we're better now. >> reporter: around the world there were tributes to france, westminster abbey, and the university of notre dame. anne-marie, why is the president saying five years? that isn't an arbitrary number. paris plans to have millions of people coming here when they host the olympics in 2024. >> ian lee, thank you very much. ian is in paris, by the way. so nearly 30 million people are in the path of severe wind that could bring wind, hail, and even tornadoes to parts of the plains. the system comes after tornadoes hit in the south. nearly 60 twisters touched down from texas to delaware. some of the hardest hit towns in texas are under threat again. chris shaffer of our minneapolis

affiliate is tracking this multi-day severe weather outbreak. parts of the country will be dealing with severe weather over the next couple of days especially in the southern plains parts of the country. you can see the enhanced risk according to the prediction center, oklahoma pushing down through texas. we'll walk you through it. early in the afternoon on wednesday, just some garden variety thundershowers will pop up. we're keeping any on that line of storms that will fire up in parts of oklahoma and texas and quickly push toward the east. no surprise the storm threat on thursday will shift farther to the east where we have the enhanced risk from louisiana t missisand parts alabama. the concern for storms that congeal into one will be for strong damaging winds. we'll keep an eye on that. we'll keep an eye on it before it kicks out to the east and into the atlantic.

there is always the possibility of a tornado. but the main concerns again will be damaging winds and sizeable hail. i'm meteorologist chris shaffer, cbs news. cook county's state attorney kim fox discussed the jussie smollett case with her staff after recusing herself from the case. according to our cbs chicago skaug wbbm, fox describes smollett as a washed up celeb who lied to cops according to text messages. the station reports fox's charges to her office's pending indictments to singer r. kelly. the "empire" actor was accused of faking a hate crime against himself and was charged with 16 felony counts. prosecutors eventually dropped all charges against smollett. president trump has vetoed a congressional resolution to end military assistance in saudi arabia's war in yemen. the president says the

resolution endangers the lives of american citizens and servicemembers. congress has grown uneasy with the president's relationship with saudi arabia. lawmakers, however, lack the the votes to overyied the veto. this is mr. trump's second veto as president. today the trump administration is expected to announce lawsuits in u.s. courts against foreign companies doing business in countries by cuba from americans after the 1959 resolution. now, the major policy shift could deal a blow to cuba's efforts to attract foreign investment. the move is considered an effort to punish havana for its support over president nicolas maduro. national security adviser john bolton will explain the decision in a speech in miami later today and announce new sanctions on cuba. >> coming up on the "morning news," new details on the disturbing case of a man accused

"the new york times" says prosecutors say actress felicity huffman should get prison time. in a plea agreement prosecutors argue that she should serve between four and ten months for paying to boost her daughter's s.a.t. scores. that sentence croppeds with sentencing guidelines. prosecutors t for the lower end of that range and a $20,000 fine. huffman said last week she will plead guilty to fraud charges. cbsnews.com reports a county in new york announced a new ban to fight the measles outbreak. rockland county officials are banning people infected with measles from public places for 21 days.

those who ignore the ban could be fined $2,000 per day. there have been 186 confirmed cases in the county since october and 33 new cases in the last three weeks. >> the fact of the matter is we have had five cases go to the intensive care unit including one infant. need we wait for someone to day. >> the number of measles cases have skyrocketed with 455 reported across 20 states this year alone. and "usa today" reports the man charged with throwing a 5-year-old off a third floor balcony at minnesota's mall of murder. he made his first court
